Imprisoned poet and activist ‘Jimmy’ (Kyaw Min Yu) has been released from his 65-year prison sentence as part of the amnesty announced this week for 600 Burmese political prisoners.

Poems by Jimmy and Ma Thida were published in the Spring 2011 issue of the Asia Literary Review, which focused on Burma. Re-read their poems, The Door and Naked Value, in Issue 19 of the ALR

With his wife Nilar Thein, also imprisoned for the same term, Jimmy is now free – for the time being.
